How we started
Rice is one of the most consumed foods in the world. This ingredient is mandatory in all Brazilian lunch tables. It was based on that, along with a strong will of growing and dedication for always achieving the best, that the Extremo Sul Rice Cooperative was born.
Founded in March 17 of 1965, the company was created due to Lauro Ribeiro’s entrepreneur inspiration. The rice producer was the leader of a group composed by 13 other producers, all of them impregnated by the cooperative spirit. Those precursors had the intention of receiving, drying, storing, industrializing and commercializing the rice produced in the south of Rio Grande do Sul state.
Who we are today
The Extremo Sul Rice Cooperative is localized in Brazil's most meridional region, along the Brazil-Uruguay border, and its head offices and industries are localized in Pelotas and Camaquã, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. With more than 50 years of history, the company has branches in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Recife, Fortaleza, Campo Grande and Feira de Santana, besides many representatives working on all over the country.
Through the constant innovation, the pursuit of the best material and qualified labor, Extremo Sul has firmed its name at the national and international market. With 10 personal brands and a few exclusive to outsource purposes, the company has become a reference in the rice segment, exporting to countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Americas.
The Cooperativa Arrozeira Extremo Sul performs the correct separation of the waste generated in the process, as well as the routing to external sources of recycling / reuse, these processes are registered and forwarded periodically to the City Office of Environmental Quality (SQA).
Unused electronic materials are also referred to certified companies that perform the component recycling. The reverse logistics procedure is used for the rubber belts and for the lamps, in which the materials used are returned to the supplier.
In addition, the Cooperativa reaffirms its commitment to the environment through its participation in ASLORE (Associação de Logística Reversa), contributing to the reduction of packaging wastes in the environment and investing resources in associations of pickers, in order to collaborate and encourage the chain of sustainability.
The liquid residues of the parboiling unit follow the same control and destination rigor, and for the best treatment an Effluent Treatment Station was constructed, where the water used in the industrial process is reprocessed in a set of systems making it compatible with Environmental standards.
To reduce the solid particles generated in the process, the company installed industrial capture systems with filters bags at various points of the production line. These systems in operation retain the solid particles released by the process, preventing them from being dispersed in the environment.
In addition to the internal measures, the Cooperativa signed a mutual cooperation agreement with ANDEF (Associação Nacional de Defesa Vegetal), Sociedade de Agronomia of Rio Grande do Sul, EMBRAPA-CPACT, UCPEL, UFPEL, Associação dos Engenheiros Agrônomos of Pelotas and the prefectures of Pelotas and Capão do Leão for the construction of an Agrochemical Packaging Receiving Center, triple-washed (CRER). The objective of this partnership was to offer the consumers of agrochemicals (herbicides, insecticides, etc.) the proper destination of the containers after their use without damaging the environment. The Cooperativa Arrozeira Extremo Sul collaborated through the concession of the land and the construction of all the infrastructure through the application of resources.
In this way, we hope to contribute to a healthy environment and to inspire our clients and employees to follow the same ideal.
